Skating Lessons = Success for Gavin

I had come to the reality that Gavin just wasn't going to learn to skate...he said he wasn't playing hockey and didn't want to skate!  I thought I would try skating lessons just one more time before he was old enough to get into hockey, just in case he changed his mind over the summer and it wouldn't be too late for him to play.  Well..... I was right!!  This little skating monster jumped to the next level after the second week and it now a full fledged skater who wants to play hockey next year.

How a 4 year old likes to party!

We had planned to have an outdoor birthday party with skating and sledding.  Well.... Alberta weather sure changed that plan!  We feel fortunate that I have the option to use the school gym at the last moment.  The kids had a great time running,  playing hockey and jumping jumping on the matts.
Gavin was as spoiled boy by all his little friends.  We all feel so fortunate that we have such wonderful people in our lives.

January 7th, a day fit for a king! Swimming, special treats and a family dinner out for pizza (Gavin's choice!)

Gavin starts playschool!!

Today caught both Gavin and I off guard.... for weeks, months, even the past year Gavin has been asking when he get to start school.  All the excitement turned into reality when I had to actually leave him at Noah's Ark Playschool.  My confident,  social butterfly was clutched to my arm with tears flowing down his face.  As I fought off my tears in front of him, I tried to reassure him and myself for that matter, that he would make a new little friend and would love school.  I proceeded to my vehicle and cried like a scared little 3 year old myself.  His first day went just okay.  We will keep you posted on the progress of 3 year old playschool.

Skating Lessons

We just finished the boys first session of Canskate.
Gavin laced up his skates for the first time when he started the lessons.  The first few weeks consisted of lots of crying and crawling on the ice.  After the first day he said to me, " mom, I don't like my teacher with the beautiful eye"!  That must mean that she was at least was in his face trying to teach him a thing or two.  By the last day of the lesson, Gavin was on his feet most of the time and even smiling :).  His one teacher (without the beautiful eye I"m guessing) had a strong connection making his skating experience positive.

Bennett on the other hand is a natural like his Grandpa Wecker.  From the very start he jumped to the next level and kept up with all the kids.  Sometimes I had trouble keeping track of where he was on the ice because he was so fast.  He received his first badge and was two skills away from receiving his second.  I see hockey in our near future, eek.

Here are some of our favorite pictures.

Gavin with his ribbon and Bennett with his badge, way to go boys!!!
