Skating Lessons = Success for Gavin

I had come to the reality that Gavin just wasn't going to learn to skate...he said he wasn't playing hockey and didn't want to skate!  I thought I would try skating lessons just one more time before he was old enough to get into hockey, just in case he changed his mind over the summer and it wouldn't be too late for him to play.  Well..... I was right!!  This little skating monster jumped to the next level after the second week and it now a full fledged skater who wants to play hockey next year.

Skating Lessons

We just finished the boys first session of Canskate.
Gavin laced up his skates for the first time when he started the lessons.  The first few weeks consisted of lots of crying and crawling on the ice.  After the first day he said to me, " mom, I don't like my teacher with the beautiful eye"!  That must mean that she was at least was in his face trying to teach him a thing or two.  By the last day of the lesson, Gavin was on his feet most of the time and even smiling :).  His one teacher (without the beautiful eye I"m guessing) had a strong connection making his skating experience positive.

Bennett on the other hand is a natural like his Grandpa Wecker.  From the very start he jumped to the next level and kept up with all the kids.  Sometimes I had trouble keeping track of where he was on the ice because he was so fast.  He received his first badge and was two skills away from receiving his second.  I see hockey in our near future, eek.

Here are some of our favorite pictures.

Gavin with his ribbon and Bennett with his badge, way to go boys!!!

Skating

The weather was FINALLY nice enough to go skating on the outdoor rink.  This is Bennett's second time and Gavin's first time trying out the old Canadian past time of skating.

Uncle Dan shoveled the ice for the boys!

Gavin, mr. cutie patutie

Bennett's very flashy skates!

A little wobbly in the legs but a nice big smile on Bennett's face.

Gavin's bob skates (they were missing a couple straps, turns out we needed those straps badly!)

Gavin's bob skates, turned into little ankle breakers.

I love this picture!

Erin and Dan

All the other moms out there that try as desperately as I do to get a picture of their kids BOTH facing the camera, not even smiling..understand how painful the process can be.  Here are a few of my attempts.

A snuggle with Erin to warm up when we got home.

We hope for more warm weather so we can get back out on the pond!
